Types of plastic

Crush pressure

The crush pressure changes as the handle is pulled down through its cycle

We have measured pressure up to 1700 lb / 800kg at points in the cycle

Despite the power of the 5000, some plastics are just too hard and strong to crush in the 5000, eg the hard plastic in a reusable plastic water bottle

Constraints

The plastic bottle should have a cap in the middle or near middle of the bottle

Will not crush jerry-can-style plastic containers with the cap at one end, eg the common one gallon or 5L chemical container

Maximum diameter of bottle cap is 2 inches, 50mm to fit through the hole in the crush plate

Some laboratory plastic bottles have a large cap that is the same size as the bottle, ie there are no shoulders under the cap.  For these we recommend our balers, model 6000, 7000 or 8000

The chamber is only 12 inches, 30cm tall.  Bottles taller than 13 or 14 inches, or 35cm might not fit into the crush chamber of a 5000 unless they have a long neck underneath the cap.  Tall bottles and cartons may be pre-squashed manually to fit them into the chamber.
